Staff Regulations – a message from Vice President ŠEFČOVIČ
I would like to inform you that the Legal Affairs Committee (JURI) of the European Parliament supported the compromise text on Staff Regulations by a large majority vote in its extraordinary committee meeting this morning. Furthermore, a political agreement on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) has been reached this morning between President SCHULZ of the Parliament, Irish Taoiseach KENNY and Commission President BARROSO. This paves the way for an extraordinary Coreper meeting tomorrow, Friday 28 June, during which the MFF and the proposed changes to the Staff Regulations will be discussed. If the compromise text on Staff Regulations is supported by a qualified majority of Member States, the European Parliament could already vote in its plenary session next week. I will submit the compromise to the College in its meeting next week in Strasbourg. As I have already mentioned before, this is a tough, but reasonable and balanced compromise given the very difficult circumstances. You will find the compromise text on Staff Regulations attached to this message (Staff Regulations compromise text) and I will continue to keep you informed on developments in the coming days. Once the proposal is agreed, we will come back to you with more detailed information about the changes and their consequences.
Vice-President of the European Commission
